Zach Ferguson
University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill
I am a philosophy PhD candidate at UNC and a 2026 recipient of the Charlotte W. Newcombe Fellowship. In 2025 I was the Tom Regan Visiting Research Fellow at North Carolina State University. My primary research program is focused on ethical questions involving nonhuman animals, but I have broad research and teaching interests in ethics and normative philosophy generally. My dissertation is about animal ethics and moral character, and my work has been published in journals such as Analysis, Synthese, and Politics, Philosophy & Economics.
Before moving to Chapel Hill, I earned an M.A. in philosophy from the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee and a B.A. from Vanderbilt University. When I am not doing philosophy, I enjoy making music, reading fiction, and learning languages.
