Zach Ferguson
University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill
I am a philosophy PhD candidate at UNC and a 2026 recipient of the Charlotte W. Newcombe Fellowship. Last year, I was the Tom Regan Visiting Research Fellow at North Carolina State University. My primary research program is focused on ethical questions involving nonhuman animals. That said, I have broad research and teaching interests in ethics and normative philosophy generally, and I'm a sucker for an occasional interdisciplinary twist. My dissertation is about animal ethics and moral character, and my work has been published in journals such as Analysis, Synthese, and Politics, Philosophy & Economics.
Before moving to Chapel Hill, I earned an M.A. in philosophy from the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee and a B.A. from Vanderbilt University. When I am not doing philosophy, I enjoy making music, reading fiction, and learning languages.
